This unit beats it’s competition hands down on several points:
1. Highest sampling rate; 192 KHz. All other comparable units leave off at 96KHz.
2. Features Performance Phase Lock Loop (PLL) technology. Not offered on any other comparable unit.
3. A/C or USB powered, another feature unique to this unit. I wanted to convert the optical out on my desktop Macintosh for use with a headphone amp without the need of yet another wall wart/power adapter (though one is included if you want it.) Done.
4. Also the only one of it’s competition to list useful audio specifications like THD and signal to noise ratio. The best the other guys can do is list almost useless info like the weight of their unit.
5. This is also the only one to specify what chip is being used, a world class Wolfson. The other guys: ???
Long story short: I’ve used the D3 to listen to everything from Coleman Hawkins to Yoko Kanno to Pixies as well as my own stuff and now I’m addicted. I will never go back.
FiiO: I liked your stuff before, now I am a devoted fan.
