This is a fantastic product! Yes it is a high quality media player, but it is also a sturdy external hard drive. It is very easy to install an internal drive in the unit. The transfer speeds are equivalent to the other portable external HDDs that I own, and the size of the unit is not much bigger that most portable 2.5" drives on the market (it easily fits in the carrying case that I bought for one of my other portable HDDs). As a media player, the picture quality on a regular TV is DVD quality (or better). I haven't had a chance to use it with a HDTV, but I'm pretty certain that the 720p output will be great as well. One very useful function is the copy feature. Now when I'm away from home, I can dump my camera's SD card onto the hard drive; or I can copy the movie from my buddy's USB stick without needing a PC. Now that's handy!! Personally, I like the "goto" button on the remote as it allows easy seeking of a video file. This feature is not present on many other media players that I've seen. Do you have video files that aren't on the "supported file types" list? Don't let that keep you away. The Micca Video Recode Tutorial (see documentation) will guide even the newest user through the process of converting unsupported video files for use on the Micca Slim (eg: convert MKV to MP4 with no loss of quality). You don't even have to pay for the software! All in all, this is a great value for my economics. I recommend this for anyone that doesn't absolutely have to have 1080p quality or specific file support (for that you can expect to pay twice or more the price of this unit...probably without internal storage, too). Thanks to Micca for a great product at a good price!!

Can The Micca Slim Playback Video Files Continuously?
By default, the Micca Slim will continuously play back all compatible video files in a folder repeatedly until turned off or stopped. Also, in case of a power outage, the Micca Slim will turn itself back on once power comes back and resume playing the video where it left off. This feature is extremely convenient for use while traveling and also allow the Micca Slim to be used as a simple digital signage device.
Why doesn't the Micca Slim support MKV, H.264 or 1080P?
Currently, there aren't any portable media player processors that can playback MKV/H.264/1080P media files in a reliable fashion. There are some portable media players on the market that claim to do this, but there are widespread compatibility and playback quality issues associated with them. In comparison, the Micca Slim is a proven and stable design with excellent image quality. For most everyday use such as playing DVD backups, movies from digital cameras, the MPEG4/DiVX video formats supported by the Micca Slim provides excellent results.
How do I make sure that the videos I have will play on the Micca Slim?
The Micca Slim supports most of the commonly used codecs and container files in use today. However, even when you run into a video file that the Micca Slim reports as "unsupported", all is not lost. It is easy to recode such videos into a format that can be played back on the Micca Slim. We have put together a tutorial that will show you how to recode videos using free and easy to use software tools like MediaInfo and Handbrake:

Can The Micca Slim Be Used Without a Hard Drive?
An internal hard disk drive is strongly recommended but not required to use the Micca Slim. The internal drive bay can be left empty and only playback files from external USB or SD/SDHC card storage devices.
